Online Mind-Body coaching

In these online sessions I work one to one with clients who are struggling with physical, emotional or mental difficulties, and are looking for some release in order to feel more free and at ease in their lives.

Clients often come to me when have been feeling stuck for some time, for example with persistent pain, chronic health problems or anxiety and depression. They have tried more traditional routes to well-being, through medication, talking therapies or through classical massage or physical therapy, but are not feeling any significant shifts, or the problems keep coming back again and again.

What I offer is a new perspective for clients. An invitation to enter into a dialogue with their symptoms of pain, ‘dis’-ease or emotional and mental blocks. I create a safe space for my clients to get curious about what their body is saying to them through their symptoms, and enable them answer their own questions about what changes they can make to move forward into a healthier and happier future.

I can also offer clients some ‘self Shiatsu’ guided routines to deepen the work and bring physical touch to the body. Using oriental medicine techniques including acupressure, meridian massage, breathing techniques and mediations, clients can become their own therapist and learn valuable tools they can continue to use outside of the session to improve their health and well-being.

If how I work resonates with you, and you would like to find out more, the next step would be to book a free, no obligation, 20 minute consultation with me. A chance to see if we are a good fit to work together and to ask any questions.

About Shiatsu

Shiatsu is a physical therapy that supports and strengthens the body’s natural ability to heal and balance itself. It works on the whole person - not just with the physical body, but also with the psychological, emotional and spiritual aspects of being.

Shiatsu touch Photo by David P Granero

Shiatsu originated in Japan from traditional Chinese medicine, with influences from more recent Western therapies. Although Shiatsu means ‘finger pressure’ in Japanese, in practice a practitioner uses touch, comfortable pressure and manipulative techniques to adjust the body’s physical structure and balance its energy flow.

It is a deeply relaxing experience and regular treatments can alleviate stress and illness and maintain health and well-being.A typical session lasts around an hour, and usually takes place on a futon mat on the floor, with the receiver remaining fully clothed throughout.

I will take a medical history and opportunity to discuss any currents issues. We will usually spend 15-20 minutes in conversation and then the rest of the time will be hands-on body work. Each treatment is unique and can vary from very gentle, still, holding work, to deeper more dynamic movement and stretches.
No! Some of the stretches or pressure points can feel quite intense, and clients can experience a sort of ‘grateful’ pain as muscles or areas of tension are released, but it should not feel unpleasant at any point.
Shiatsu is carried out fully clothed. It's best to wear loose comfortable clothing such as long sleeved T-shirts and stretchy trousers. Clean socks should be worn, and in the winter, a jumper is advisable.
The greatest benefit is gained from receiving regular shiatsu sessions, as one builds on another and issues are resolved over time. I would usually suggest a minimum of 3 sessions, most people begin with weekly appointments and then drop down to fortnightly or monthly ‘maintenance’ sessions. Discounts are available for when you book in advance for a course of 6 treatments.

About me

My background is in support work, and I bring this experience into my Shiatsu. I work with clients wanting to take care of their physical and emotional health and well being, and people come with a wide range of issues including stress, depression, physical injuries and chronic health conditions, or to support the bodies changes through pregnancy and post birth. Shiatsu is a deeply relaxing and rejuvenating experience, so many people come as a monthly ‘treat’.

I have been practicing for over twelve years and also work as a Shiatsu teacher at the Bristol School of Shiatsu (where I started my training in 2003), as well as running various Shiatsu workshops at beginner and postgraduate levels. Shiatsu is integral to my life, part of a broader spiritual practice that includes meditation, art, yoga and a strong interest in personal development.

Are you juggling parenting, work, running a home, and carrying the epic ‘mental load’ which seems to come with modern motherhood? Add to that a global pandemic, lockdowns, home schooling, isolation, financial insecurity... It’s no wonder many of us are often feeling tense, overwhelmed, anxious and struggling to find time for ourselves.

Imagine a space where you can receive some genuine support, a place to rediscover your joy, to feel some relief from daily demands and to make meaningful connections with other like minded mums.

We will practice grounding techniques to calm and soothe the nervous system, create a safe space to explore and befriend our emotions, and to connect to the inner wisdom we all hold in our bodies. This course will also introduce you to simple tools and exercise you can fit into your daily life in order to allow more happiness, fulfilment and creativity.

MUMS IN MIND - Joy in January

The first of the Mums In Mind courses will start on the 5th of January and run for 4 weeks. For many of us January can feel like a long, dark, hard month at the best of times, and with 2021 already full of uncertainty, it feels more important than ever to really take care of ourselves as mums, in order to be able best take care of our families and loved ones.

The January course will be split into 4 main themes:

Joy in January Week 1

Week 1

Mindful Moments

Discovering calm and inner peace 5 minutes at a time

Joy in January Week 2

Week 2

Nourish Mind, Body and Soul

Finding ways to acknowledge and take care of our needs

Joy in January Week 3

Week 3

Everyday Creativity

How can we bring more creativity and joy into our lives.

Joy in January Week 4

Week 4

Authentic outreach

Connecting to others, reducing loneliness, feeling support.

I am not very creative, does it matter? You do not need to consider yourself a creative person. All of the activities are simple, optional and very accessible.

What do I need to prepare for the course? You will need to set up a Zoom and Whatsapp account before we start, and ideally try to arrange for some quiet alone time during the online session.

I am worried my kids will interrupt! Yes, I understand - me too!! Ideally if you have a partner, let them know you'll be busy during this time. If it's just you, you may need to pop out of the call to deal with the kids. That's the reality of parenting life, and we can work with it.

How much time will it take up? I am super busy. There will be a weekly call for 2 hours. On top of this there will be optional exercises for you to practice during the week, but don't worry, these are designed with busy mums in mind, and are things you can do for a few minutes at a time, whenever you can find the space.
